- Anxiety relief: Medications like nitrous oxide, oral sedatives and IV sedation help you feel calm and comfortable during dental procedures; sedation is often recommended for patients with dental anxiety or for lengthy treatments.
- Cost ranges: Typical price ranges (varies by location and visit length): nitrous oxide $25–$100, oral sedation $150–$500, IV sedation $500–$1,500.”
- Safety & standards: Procedural sedation and analgesia are considered standard care for managing pain and anxiety in pediatric dental patients; sedation provides anxiolysis, analgesia, amnesia and safety while maintaining airway patency and hemodynamic stability.
- Procedure & recovery: You may need to fast and arrange transportation before treatment; sedation is administered before your procedure and local anesthesia is used once you’re relaxed. Recovery is rapid for nitrous oxide (15–30 minutes) and about 24 hours for oral or IV sedation.
- Family‑friendly: Deeper levels of sedation may be needed for young children or those with special needs when non‑pharmacologic methods are inadequate; sedation is safe when delivered by trained professionals.
